Purnim is a small rural town located 250 kilometres southwest of Melbourne on the Hopkins Highway, positioned midway between Warrnambool and Mortlake.
The town's name is thought to derive from an Aboriginal word meaning rain. Notable buildings include the Purnim Hotel, Mechanics Institute hall (built in 1901), the primary school, and a church. The formally recognised traditional owners are the Eastern Maar people, represented by the Eastern Maar Aboriginal Corporation.
