Former Royal Hotel
Former Royal Hotel "Linda is located on the eastern side of Queenstown. Remarkably, this former watering hole closed in the 1950s and the building is still standing. Constructed in 1910." - Glenn. Thanks Glenn
Information on Linda, TAS 7466
Linda is a historic ghost town located in the Linda Valley within Tasmania's West Coast Range, situated roughly ten minutes drive from Queenstown. Developed in 1899 to support the North Mount Lyell gold mine, the town declined rapidly after the devastating 1912 mine disaster that killed 42 miners.
Today, Linda stands as an abandoned settlement with the rotting remains of the Royal Hotel, which closed in the 1950s. The town serves as a haunting reminder of Tasmania's boom-and-bust mining era, nestled between Mount Owen and Mount Lyell in the scenic but remote western wilderness.
