Tailem Bend is a rural town located 85 kilometres southeast of Adelaide on the lower reaches of the River Murray, near Lake Alexandrina. The town's name derives from the Ngarrindjeri word "thelim," meaning "bend," referring to the sharp bend the river makes at this location.
Originally established as a railway town in 1886, today Tailem Bend serves as a commercial center for the surrounding Mallee region and features The Bend Motorsport Park, Australia's premier motorsport facility, alongside Old Tailem Town, Australia's largest pioneer village with over 110 historical buildings.
