Wakool is a small rural town in New South Wales with a population of around 220-297 residents, located in the Murray River region approximately 650km northeast of Sydney. Situated between the Murray and Murrumbidgee Rivers, this peaceful community includes a cafe/post office, hotel, and services club.

The town serves as a base for wool and cattle industries and offers a quiet, relaxed lifestyle away from city living. Wakool has several heritage-listed sites and provides primary education through Wakool Burraboi Public School.

Wakool is accessed primarily by road, being adjacent to the Sturt Highway. The town serves as a gateway to Murray River activities including paddling the Wakool River system and accessing the historic Speewa Ferry, one of only two cable ferries crossing the Murray River between NSW and Victoria.

River activities include fishing, waterskiing, houseboats and paddle steamers. The nearest major city is Sydney, requiring a drive of approximately 650 kilometers.
