Blinman is the highest town in South Australia, nestled in the central Flinders Ranges. With a population of just 43 in the 2021 census, it is located about 425 kilometres north of Adelaide. The town began with the discovery of copper in 1859 and commencement of mining in 1862.

Today, this peaceful settlement offers a General Store, Post Office Agency and the North Blinman Hotel with accommodation and dining. The copper mine at one end of the town is a popular attraction, while the town serves as an ideal central base from which to explore one of Australia's most magnificent scenic regions.

Travel options

From the south, there is a sealed road all the way from Hawker via Wilpena. Access from the west is along the stunning Parachilna Gorge. Parachilna Gorge was from 1881 the route of drays transporting copper from the Blinman mine to the Parachilna railhead. Glass Gorge provides another scenic drive option when traveling from or to Parachilna, and roads to Arkaroola via Wirrealpa are also available. In dry weather there are no problems with a conventional car on these routes.
