\Araluen is a small historic town in the Southern Tablelands of New South Wales, nestled in the picturesque Araluen Valley among the Great Dividing Range. With a population of 209 people (2021 census), this former gold mining town sits in the valley of Araluen Creek. The name 'Araluen' meant 'water lily' or 'place of the water lilies' in the local Aboriginal language.
Also known as the Valley of Peace or Happy Valley, the village is now noted for its picturesque scenery and calm, country atmosphere. Today it features historic ruins, beautiful orchards, and stunning valley views.

By car, Araluen is approximately 100 kilometers southeast of Canberra via the Kings Highway (B52) and Araluen Road. The easiest access is the 26km sealed route south from Braidwood.
A more scenic but challenging option is the 14km dirt track from Majors Creek, which offers spectacular valley entry. Araluen Road also connects to Moruya, following the Deua River through mountainous forest. Bus services to Araluen are limited, making private vehicle transport the most practical option.
