Information on Tammin, 6409

Tammin is a quaint rural township located two hours' drive east of Perth on the Great Eastern Highway and the famous Golden Pipeline Heritage Trail route. First settled in 1893 by John Packham, the town was gazetted in 1899. The name "Tammin" means grandmother or grandfather in local Aboriginal language, though it may also derive from the Tamma wallaby or bush native to the area.

The town has a population of 400 and is dominated by massive wheat silos built in 1960, among the first concrete silos in Australia. It serves as a convenient rest-stop for exploring countryside and experiencing wildflower seasons.
