Previously the Parade Hotel and reportedly where Victoria's first football club, the Melbourne Football Club, and the East Melbourne Cricket Club were founded and the watering hole for players after the game.

The Pub is also famous in Melbourne History as it is said it was the Pub where in 1859 a group of local cricketers including Tom Wills met and devised the rules for the game of Aussie Rules.

Attempts to develop the site have been met with heritage listing applications and objections.
