The Coorong is a spectacular wilderness area featuring a narrow stretch of coastal sand dunes extending 140-145 km along South Australia's southeast coast. Located less than two hours from Adelaide, it encompasses the Coorong National Park with its protected saline lagoons, separated from the Southern Ocean by the windswept Younghusband Peninsula.
The region is internationally significant as a Ramsar-listed wetland, providing habitat for over 230 bird species including migratory birds from Siberia, Alaska, Japan and China. The Coorong lies within the traditional lands of the Ngarrindjeri people.

The Coorong is approximately 115-120 miles from Adelaide, accessible by car in under 2 hours via the South Eastern Freeway to Tailem Bend, then south on Highway 1. Visitors can travel from Adelaide via the South Eastern Freeway to Tailem Bend before turning south onto the Princes Highway, or enjoy the scenic Adelaide to Melbourne Touring Route from Kingston SE.
Public transport options include bus services to Meningie (the gateway town) followed by taxi. Most areas are accessible by 2WD, though 4WD is required for Coorong National Park beaches and certain remote sections.
