Information on Bendemeer, 2355

Bendemeer is a charming historic village of approximately 485 people situated on the Macdonald River in New South Wales' New England region. Located at the junction of the New England and Oxley Highways, this picturesque township is just 30 minutes from Tamworth and 10 minutes from Moonbi Pass.

First settled in 1834 as a sheep station, the town was renamed Bendemeer in 1854 after a line from Thomas Moore's 1817 poem "Lalla-Rookh." Having been bypassed by the New England Highway, this "held-in-aspic" village offers a peaceful retreat with its historic buildings and riverside location.
