Toora Pub closure deeply felt by the local community
6 January 2026
Unfortunately, the Royal Standard Hotel in Toora has faced significant challenges. In October 2025, the pub entered into liquidation due to financial difficulties, with the company being wound-up and the pub's assets sold to pay outstanding debts to creditors. The owners apologized for any inconvenience and thanked the local community and staff for their support over the previous eight years.
A registered liquidator was appointed to manage the administration process, and at the time the owners expressed hope that new management could be secured to have the pub operating again. The closure has been deeply felt by the local community, with residents expressing sadness about losing their town's historic watering hole.
This wasn't the first time the pub faced difficulties. Back in 2016, the pub temporarily lost its liquor licence when a previous tenant left behind massive debts and was declared bankrupt. During that period, the pub remained open for meals but couldn't serve alcohol until the licence could be restored.
The Royal Standard Hotel, built in 1889, is the oldest pub in the South Gippsland Shire and has been a central meeting place for the community for over 130 years. Whether it will reopen under new management remains to be seen.
