Six o'Clock Swill

1 February 2016

If you are in Victoria you could well be celebrating the 50th anniversary of the end of six o'clock early closing on this day. Spurred by the temperance movement early closing was introduced across 5 states.

It was abolished in NSW in 1955, SA in 1967, Tas in 1937 and Qld in 1966.

This time became known as the six o'clock swill with bars 6 deep with workers and not much time to drink before closing.
