13 September 2010

"If you want some very good information on the pubs and you are anywhere near Ballarat Vic call into the local Library and go to the historical section as they have book on every pub that was in Ballarat from the gold rush days through to the present and worth a read as there was 466 pubs sly grog shantys.

This has every name the pubs that were in Ballarat and there are still a lot of former Pubs still around from the former Prince Regent sitting out on the Bunniyong rd to the former Pub sitting next to the toyota dealer across from the Library to the Duke of York being used as a shop.

It would give your website a boost sorry I have no pictures but I lived in Ballarat for three years you must travel around the area as you would be suprised thank you" - Chris

Important to find the old brewerys and buildings as a lot of towns had there own brewerys and the pubs in those towns did belong to those brewerys as in Ballarat the old Ballarat brewing Co building which was pretty large was converted into tec school. This brewery made the Ballarat bertie which was a famous for the town the old Kenna brewery was still standing the last I saw it out at Warrenheip.

And there is the old Brinds Distillery buildings still standing when I was living in Ballarat I may not drink but I have interest in the old pubs and brewerys of Australia and I have a interest in public transport as well. Keep up the good work - Chris Dempsey.

Many of the older Pubs were as you say were associted with micro breweries, as they had to be when the major breweries were days transport away. And the fate of the Publican that ran out of beer was never a good one :-) That is an area we are trying to add info on.. Great stuff. Cheers. -
