"Formerly The Gardens Hotel, was built circa 1898 and had the distinction of being the first brick two-storey building in Sea Lake.
On a Saturday, Sept. 5th 1914, due to a bursting of a kerosene lamp 14 premises, including The Royal Hotel, burnt to the ground.

The Hotel was re-built soon after to meet the demands of the many railway workers and local farmers." - courtesy Hotel website
