Rum Jungle was the location of a uranium mining venture (closed these days), which fairly well gave birth to Batchelor. There are some really interesting houses constructed of fibro, with glass louvres and standing on stilts around the town, that were built by the mining company.

There are actually very few of these tropical-type houses left in Darwin. - Glenn
