Apparently in the early days a bloke called Smoothy wanted a Rum before opening time. Not having much luck with the Publican, hooked his bullock team up to the Pubs stumps and suggested that he and the Pub might relocate to another town. The Publican decided that it was close enough to opening time after all.

It seems that Smoothy used to get into all sorts of strife with the locals. One night while Smoothy was having one or several, the townspeople swapped the horse on his buggy with a bullock from his team. None the wiser it took Smoothy the entire night to get home.
