The Australian would have just about the best view in Gympie from the Balcony. So if that is something you prize highly in your accommodation then this is probably the Pub for you. Big old style 12 foot verandahs to kick back on as well. The accommodation is budget and the Meals are good value.

The owners have given the Aussie some old world charm in the lounge bar. Tudor style in decor is probably the best description. In a town of Hills, this Pub is on top of one of the tallest in town.

Beautiful Building in the Queensland style

Chambers Hotel

Chambers Hotel
Chambers Hotel reopened and renovated under the new name.

Photo courtesy of the Hotel Website

"The celebrated Chambers fresh BBQ luncheon; with a very enticing menu of black Angus steaks, Moreton Bay bugs, tasty prawns and fish or tender chicken, all freshly cooked to order on the BBQ, and complimented with an array of fresh local salads, is available from midday every day, except Sundays & Mondays.

The larger functions; weddings, birthdays, Christmas parties, etc., are a speciality, and can be fully catered for downstairs in the Bullion Room and Courtyard venues, whilst smaller private meetings, seminars, etc., can be accommodated in the “closed door” Function Room.

The Chambers – country hospitality the way it really should be." - information courtesy Tony, Many Thanks

Chambers Hotel.

Formerly the Commercial Hotel.

"At the top end of town, on the corner of Mary & Channon Streets, is the all new Chambers, Licensed Restaurant & Hotel.

A comforting sophisticated atmosphere with all the 'old world' charm that comes with the recently completed renovation of one of Gympie's grand old heritage buildings (complete with ghosts), circa 1892, The Chambers offers patrons real country hospitality with a quiet sense of style.

Welcoming both locals and visitors alike, the intimate & informal “avant-garde” Wine & Cocktail Bar, with its extensive cocktail menu, complimented by a wide selection of good Australian & imported wines, spirits & beers, offers the perfect haven for that quiet relaxing interlude either after work or before dinning.

Dinning can be either 'a la carte', in the fully air conditioned Piano Room with the beautiful grand piano playing, or 'al fresco', out on the more relaxed Paradise Terrace with the very tempting blackboard specials.

Specialising in individual table service, the Chambers has the best steaks in town. The char-grilled black Angus, “cooked to order” perfectly to patrons individual requirements, has an epicurean reputation without equal. The Moreton Bay Sweet Chilly Bugs are also a feature of the menu, as is the totally decadent Death by Chocolate."

Charlies has a Cafe Menu for lunch with those great cakes, coffee,s salads and light meals. There are also Bistro style luncheon meals. The front deck is a nice place to enjoy your meals. Evening dining is
a La Carte' and good value as well.

Being central to town and with the hospitality we were greeted with, it's easy to recommend Charlies to the Visitor to Gympie.

Empire Hotel

"We purchased the Pub about 5 months ago (mar 09), and have been refurbishing it for the last 4 months being careful not to destroy its heritage appeal.

We have Accommodation (8 rooms), 29 pokies, great coffee, 2 bars, and a bistro that is open from 12 pm – 2 pm for lunch and 6 pm – 9 pm for dinner Tuesdays to Saturdays at the moment. The main comment we have heard since opening is that it is a very clean, warm and inviting hotel with very personal service.

The rates for the rooms are $40 a night single $60 a night twin/double.

We have EFTPOS (we accept American Express) and an ATM. And Venue Net a new betting terminal that has just been released in Qld ( similar to TAB )
And Keno on the way."

In 1868 the Golden Age Hotel was first opened. in 1898 it changed names to the Queens Hotel and in 2001 was renamed back to the Golden Age in honour of it's gold mining past. There is some debate as to whether or not the Pub changed site in 1898 when it was re built and renamed. Tony the Publican is renovating the Pub and it will look great.

It's a sociable sort of Pub where everybody knows everybody and people get together during the day, moreso than being an evening Pub. Top collection of old Pub and town photos

The Imperial welcomes you to the friendly Pub in the centre of town. 1868 makes the Imperial the oldest license in town and perhaps the 3rd oldest in Qld. Has been the Imperial since first opened and was rebuilt in 1898. The only one in the CBD with Keno. The Seperate dining room is a great value family restaurant with kids catered for. You would call the old style long bar a "Drinkers Bar" and the direct coolroom pull means good beer for patrons

The Mount Pleasant Hotel is the oldest Pub in Gympie and third oldest license in Queensland.. Established in 1870, it is still the original Building and retains that laid back country Hotel atmosphere. The feature most commented on would be the Beer Garden. Beautiful big shade cloth covered area in a fern garden with big old tables. Top collection of wines in the Mt Pleasant Cellars. The Cellars also accept a wide range of discount cards.

The North was originally built in 1880, burn't down in 1969 and then rebuilt in brick in 1971. In 2001 the North received a face lift with the front decking and beergarden. The feature of the North, in summer the elevated street front decking with the ground lighting on, gives a real sidewalk cafe feel on a balmy evening.

The reputation of the North for dining is due in part to having two Trade Qualified chefs and in part to the spacious dining room and the outside dining area as we mentioned. Main meal specials of the day run at around $10.

The Phoenix was built around 1887, just 20 years after James Nash discovered Gold in Gympie and was so named after the North Phoenix number 2 mine. To this day there are 3 tunnels under the Hotel, the closest being 100 metres from the surface. Today the Phoenix is a warm, friendly, tastefully refurbished community Hotel. We recommend the Outback Gourmet Pizza, Morrocan Chicken Breast and the Poenix Rump steak from the extensive Menu.

Cnr of Mary and Monkland Streets

The Royal was built around the turn of the century. Unfortunately the Mary River floods finally did their damage and the Royal had to be rebuilt in 1935. It was closed two years up to 2007 waiting to be saved

Wes and Trish Wright, their daughter Kerrie Candrick and her husband Paul Candrick bought the Pub and returned it to its former glory

Architects and interior design consultants were hired to ensure the pub was brought back to its former glory.

The original façade was restored and enhanced to complement the many beautiful buildings in Mary Street built during the Gold Rush.

"We spent over $1 million dollars on renovations installing an all-you-can-eat buffet restaurant seating 140 people, lounge bar, sports bar, outdoor deck and smoking areas and 11 hotel rooms with ensuites." Kerrie Candrick - Publican. Thanks Kerrie.
