Abercrombie Hotel

Slated to close by 22nd January 2010 for site redevelopment.

The former Australian Hotel. The hotel was rebuilt in 1937 after road widening.

"Was referbished and reopened, is now quite a nice pub with a covered outdoor area" - Amy

The southern side of Broadway was widened in the 1930's. The road was called George Street West and it was renamed Broadway after the widening. All the buildings on the southern side were demolished and were rebuilt during the 1930's. Many Pubs were demolished.

Lansdowne Hotel

The Pub has excellent $5 and 10$ meals.

The Hotel was built c1933.

Note the building on the left with the clock tower. This is now part of the Grace Bros. Broadway store. The original Lansdowne Hotel stood on this site. Grace Bros. wanted to expand its store to the other side of Bay Street so they offered to build the current Lansdowne Hotel in City Road so they could demolish the old hotel and expand the Broadway store.

The old site was in Ultimo being on the other side of the road

Former Emu Hotel

Was known as the Buffalo Hotel when I used to have a few beers there.

The pub closed in c1976 and the licence was transferred to the AMP Building at Circular Quay.

The Licencee in 1913 was Alfred J. Loomes and the licencee before him was W.R. Loomes. He complained to the Sydney Municipal Council that the gas light outside of the hotel was not bright enough. - Jon Graham

It is said that WJ Loomes had a heart attack on the verandah of the Emu Inn while watch a funeral at the Morturay Station. - Sharron, granddaughter
